We all want to drink clean water, and we’re lucky enough to have access to it from our taps and from bottled water in stores. But, no matter how clean your water is, storing it in a dirty bottle or water dispenser is going to make the water dirty too. Many water dispensers help to purify water, but they can’t do their job properly if they’re not kept clean.
Keeping your water dispenser clean means that your water can stay clean. With that in mind, here are some tips for cleaning your water dispenser.
How often should you clean your water dispenser?
As bacteria build up over time in your water dispenser, it is important to clean it thoroughly on a regular basis. We would recommend cleaning your water dispenser at least every 3 months to ensure a clean water supply.
How to clean your water dispenser
If you’ve got an electric water dispenser or water cooler, then your first step should be to disconnect it from the power. Now, you need to make up the cleaning solution. This is easy to make yourself with just a bucket of water and either bleach or vinegar. Only a small amount of bleach is required if you choose this option, and make sure to wear rubber gloves when handling bleach and the cleaning solution.
All you need to do is soak a sponge or a cloth in the solution and wring out any excess liquid so that it doesn’t drip all over the dispenser. Remove all the parts of the dispenser, such as the water bottle and drip tray, and wipe down all accessible parts of the dispenser.
Fill the inner reservoir and water bottle with your solution and let it sit for a few minutes to kill any bacteria that has built up. Make sure you rinse these through with plain water afterwards to remove any taste left behind by the cleaning solution.
